Another Reason to Celebrate.

The need for babies and toddlers to be rescued is so great in Uganda, that we began giving some of them a new home before the actual physical buildings at the baby home were complete. We still have many more plans that need to be completed including a laundry facility, guest-house, outside playground area and equipment and inside flooring.
We are extremely grateful for EVERY gift donated to Aggie’s Baby Home – large and small! Since returning home from the United States, Agnes Lubega – Director of ABH, has purchased many items with the generous funds donated during several fund-raisers held in Colorado. Among some of the items purchased were: a kitchen table and eight chairs for the workers to sit on/at (Yes, they were sitting on the floor prior to this.). A large, colorrful area rug was rolled out with joy in the “toy room” (the children don’t have to sit on the cold, concrete floor any more) and two large filing cabinets were purchased to keep the children’s files neat and orderly in preparation of their eventual adoption.

Perhaps the most important announcement is that funds for both the electricity and a perimeter safety fence have also been donated and these projects will soon be underway. Imagine not having lights or a refrigerator in your home? While it is true that the baby home is located next to the New Hope Orphanage and School, it is not within it’s security fence and the nearby neighborhood is not exactly paradise.

So to all our friends, new and those who have been with us since the beginning – THANK YOU! Please remember, no gift is too small.

The baby home has 18 more empty cribs but without more monthly support ($50/mo), we will have to turn away additional babies who desperately need a safe and loving family and home. Please join us in prayer and financial support of this very special home for those dearest to the Lord’s heart.

It’s happening–God is good!

As you can see from these wonderful pictures, the dream is almost a reality.  Each step of the way has been exciting to watch as this miracle of love unfolds before our very eyes.  It won’t be long before the building isn’t the focus of our emails any longer, but pictures and stories of the orphaned babies.

Please keep Aggie’s Baby Home in your prayers!

New Well for New Hope

6 Oct

We wanted to share this note from Paula, July 30th direct from Uganda. God provided this need September 30th at the Spaghetti Dinner–exactly two months after Paula wrote this! God is so good…
I need to tell you about the well. Pastor Chris, Agnes and Ben took William and me down to the spring. People from all over were filling their water jugs and hiking back up the mountain with them. The kids from the orphanage hike down there often to fill jugs and then hike all the way back up the mountain. I was shocked! The orphanage was getting water from a man down the street, but he is now having trouble with his well. The well at the orphanage has been broken since 2003. It will cost $8,000 to rebuild the existing well. Pastor Chris has found a company here that will dig a bigger hole and install a pump that would be feasible for their use. To dig a new well would be around $15,000 – $30,000. This is the immediate need for NEW HOPE!!! How can we survive without water? We can’t and neither can these kids. I am hoping that with all of us, we can raise the $$ and get the well done by the end of the year.

God Showed Up at the Spaghetti Dinner!

6 Oct

The spaghetti dinner was a great success. God showed up in such a special way and really exceeded our expectations!

It was so good joining together around a common vision—completing the Uganda baby home, affectionately called, “Aggie’s Baby Home” named for our visionary and friend, Agnes Lubega. It was a huge success in many ways. Pastor Chris was able to share the vision, the victories, as well as the challenges they are facing in completing the baby home. One of the hot topics for discussion was getting the pump house repaired, which would provide fresh water to the property and free the children from having to make a one-mile hike down the hill for the orphanage and baby home’s water supply. Before the conversation went too far, one of the guests, Claudia began to share what God had done in her life through a restored friendship. The high point of the story came when she handed Pastor Chris a check for the $8000 needed to fix the water pump!

We were so moved by Paula’s video slide shows and her stories from Uganda. [We will expound on these in a future post.] We were so concerned about Derrick’s friend whom he had to leave behind on the streets of Kampala. One couple was so moved, they committed to support the boy for a year! He will now be able to join Derrick at the orphanage—one less street kid lost to poverty, abuse, and without a future. In addition to these special surprises, we raised $800.00 from the dinner.

A missionary was born tonight as well. Linda will join Chris and Agnes in two weeks and she will live with them. She was ready to go on another trip and that got canceled, so she seems to have all her ducks in a row already. It seems like she will stay indefinitely to oversee the baby home and be eyes for us.

The highlight of the evening was uniting in prayer for the vision of the Baby Home, the needs of the orphanage and school, praying over the prayer blankets and scarves, and blessing Pastor Chris before he returned to Uganda.

We will do the best we can to keep you updated, but God is doing so much, it’s almost unbelievable! Divine connections keep popping up. Funds are being provided. And God is gathering more of His willing servants to come alongside and help make this vision a reality. Thank you for being a part of what God is doing to rescue the babies of Uganda!

September Update

17 Sep

We finally have pictures to share with you of the new Baby Home!   The roof that is currently being put up is a result of the funds and donations collected while Agnes was here and from the Front Range Christian School student project.  Praise God for your generosity.

The picture of the boy in the red shirt is Derrick.  He is the young man that Paula (the woman that recently visited Agnes/orphanage from Parker) wrote about that she found in the city dump and took back to the orphanage.  He looks so happy even in the crowed schoolroom along with the other beautiful children.  Remember, all those smiling faces are orphans.  Unbelievable!
